Marriage

Congratulations on your marriage!

Getting married will affect many areas of your life, including your benefits. The following information will assist you with changes resulting from your marriage.

  • Compare benefit plans and contributions with those offered through your spouse's employer, if applicable. When you get married, you will have the option to add your spouse to your plan, or drop your plan and go on your spouse’s plan as a dependent. Once you and your spouse make your benefit decisions, be sure to complete the appropriate forms with both employers.  You can update you University benefits using the Benefits & Wellness worklet in Workday.
  • If you move or change your phone number, update your information in Workday.
  • Review your emergency contact information in Workday and update it if necessary.
  • Review your beneficiary designations for any survivor benefits that may be payable from your benefit plans, such as life insurance or retirement plans.
  • Review and update the W-4 form in Workday, via the Pay worklet, making adjustments to your federal and state income tax withholding status, if necessary.
  • Look at savings calculator tools and find out how much your family will need in the coming years. It's also a great time to make changes to your savings or retirement plan contributions, or change your investment strategy, to help in planning for the things that will make a difference in your family's well-being.
  • Change your payroll direct deposit to new bank account(s) if applicable. This information can be updated via the Pay worklet in Workday, by selecting Payment Elections.
  • Update your driver's license if applicable.
  • Update your name on your social security card if applicable.
  • Update your name used by the University, if applicable. You can update your preferred name at any time, for services such as email and the directory, via the Personal Information worklet in Workday. Your information will flow from Workday to both Bucknell Accounts Management (BAM) and the directory. You will need to present a new Social Security card to Human Resources to have your legal name updated for your taxes and benefits.
