Eligibility

• Faculty and Staff

  Faculty and staff are eligible to participate in two regularly scheduled courses per semester under the tuition remission program. Tuition will not be remitted for independent study, studio work, or private lessons in music or art.

  This tuition benefit is tax-exempt for undergraduate coursework. Since the tax-exempt status of the cost of graduate tuition is subject to change, faculty and staff should consult the Finance Office to determine whether graduate tuition for faculty and staff is currently subject to federal income tax.

   

• Spouse and Spousal Equivalent

  Spouses and spousal equivalents of regular full-time faculty and staff can participate in two regularly scheduled courses per semester under the tuition remission program, without a waiting period.

  This tuition benefit is tax-exempt for undergraduate coursework for spouses. Since the tax-exempt status of the cost of graduate tuition is subject to change, faculty and staff members should consult the Finance Office to determine whether graduate tuition for spouses is currently subject to federal income tax.

  The value of tuition remission for graduate coursework for spouses is considered taxable compensation and is subject to withholding at the time the courses are taken.

  The value of tuition remission for a spousal equivalent's coursework (both undergraduate and graduate) is considered taxable compensation and is subject to withholding at the time the courses are taken.

   

• Children

  Full-time, undergraduate tuition remission is available for children of regular full-time faculty and staff who have completed five (5) years of full-time benefits-eligible University service. Previous full-time benefits-eligible employment at another institution of higher education will be counted toward meeting this service requirement. Eligible children are required to meet the regular admissions requirements and be accepted to Bucknell University in order to utilize this program.
