Spouse/Partner Life Insurance
Spouse Life insurance can be purchased in $5,000 increments, up to $250,000, for spouses under the age of 70. In order to be eligible for Spouse Life, the faculty/staff member must elect an equal or greater amount of Voluntary Life on themselves. Up to $25,000 is a guaranteed issue at the time of hire. An election of greater than $25,000 is subject to medical underwriting. A medical questionnaire, completed by your spouse, will be required. CIGNA will contact you directly with the approval, denial, and/or a request for more information. If the application is denied, the coverage will remain at $25,000.*

What are your rates for Spouse Life Insurance? To find out, you will need to do a little multiplication and division. Here's an example:
Let's say your spouse is 47 years old, you are paid bi-weekly, and choose $75,000 in coverage. The rate for your spouse's age is .329 (for each $1,000 of insurance), from the chart above. Simply multiply .329 by 75 ($75, 000 divided by 1,000 = 75). You pay only $24.68 per month for $75,000 of Spouse Life Insurance.

Spouses/partners who also work for the University are ineligible for coverage under Spouse Life Insurance.
