What's it like to be a Garman Guide?

We are seeking friendly, motivated, energetic students to join the College of Engineering's Garman Guides peer mentor program. Garman Guides are paid a competitive wage, provided with professional development opportunities, and enhance their network in Engineering and across the university.

A typical cycle as a Garman Guide includes hiring and system training in late Spring. Garman Guides hit the ground running by engaging with the next class of engineering students on Bison to Bison, participating in Admissions events, and learning and engaging as a group, with a lot of fun sprinkled in!

Beginning in the Summer, we start our training with the NASPA Certified Peer Educator program. Garman Guides receive additional training on leading Zoom and in-person sessions.

In Fall, Garman Guides are expected to dedicate two hours per week to development and leading their cohorts. The two hourlong meetings each week are a staff meeting and the Guides' meeting with their cohorts. Each will last 30-60 minutes depending on content and flow. Opportunities for additional hours are available each week.
